36th FIBA European Basketball Championship
The European Basketball Championship of 2009, universally known as EuroBasket 2009, will be hosted by Poland from September 7 to September 20,2009. This will be the second time the competition is held in Poland and this championship will be the 36th regional championship held by FIBA Europe.
Qualified teams
Eight teams qualified directly to EuroBasket 2009;
Poland - as host
Russia, Spain and Lithuania - by qualifying for Beijing Olympics
Greece, Germany, Croatia and Slovenia - by qualifying for FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2008
Seven teams will qualify from the Qualifying Round that is being held from 20 August to 20 September 2008.
One last team will qualify from the Additional Qualifying Round, that will be held from August 5 to August 30, 2009.

Qualifying Round
The draw for the Qualifying Round was held on 16 February 2008 at Venice, Italy.
Group A : Italy - Serbia - Bulgaria - Hungary - Finland
Group B : FYR Macedonia - Estonia - Latvia - Portugal
Group C : Ukraine - Turkey - France - Belgium
Group D : Israel - Czech Republic - Bosnia and Herzegovina - Great Britain
The four group winners and the best three runners-up will qualify to EuroBasket 2009.
The best six of the remaining teams will go to the Additional Qualifying Round, from which one team will qualify to EuroBasket 2009.
The last four teams will go to the Relegation Round, from which two teams will relegate to Division B in 2010-2011.
